Algeria Secures Key Post at Arab Broadcasting Union

Algiers, December 16, 2025 – Algeria has secured the position of Director of the Arab News and Program Exchange Center of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), headquartered in Algiers. The election took place in Tunis earlier today.

Algeria’s candidate, Adel Kansous, formerly an aide to the Director-General of Algerian Television, was elected by acclamation by the members of the ASBU General Assembly. This followed the withdrawal of Egypt’s candidate in favor of Algeria on the eve of the 45th ordinary session of the General Assembly.

The unanimous endorsement of the Algerian candidate followed intense consultations by the Algerian delegation, represented by the Directors-General of the television, radio, and broadcasting corporations. This outcome reaffirms Algeria’s significant standing and influence amongst its Arab counterparts and within various Arab and international organizations.

Notably, with this appointment, Algeria retains the directorship of the Arab Exchange Center, a position previously held by an Algerian national.

The General Assembly and its associated events provided an opportunity for the Director-General of Algerian Radio, Adel Sellakji, to hold bilateral meetings with heads of several Arab radio stations and professional organizations. These discussions focused on expanding and deepening cooperation and exchange programs.

Furthermore, Algeria, represented by its television, radio, and broadcasting institutions, retained its membership in the Executive Council of the Arab States Broadcasting Union. The Director-General of Algerian Television, Mohamed Baghali, also maintained his position in the Executive Office for Emergency Affairs.

This development marks a significant achievement for Algeria in the Arab media landscape.
