Tlemcen, Algeria – The Minister of Veterans Affairs, Abdelmalek Tachrifet, lauded the contributions of the late President Ahmed Ben Bella during a visit to Tlemcen on Tuesday. Ben Bella, a key figure in the Algerian War of Independence, was remembered for his pivotal role in the nation’s liberation.
Minister Tachrifet’s remarks came during the opening of a national conference titled “The Symbol Mujahid Ahmed Ben Bella: Stakes and Realities.” The event was organized by the National Center for Studies and Research on the National Movement and the November 1, 1954 Revolution.
“Ahmed Ben Bella was a pillar of the national movement,” the Minister stated, emphasizing his early awareness of the necessity for liberation and independence. He highlighted Ben Bella’s crucial involvement in securing and transporting weapons into Algerian territory, essential for the revolutionary effort. “Through his immense efforts, he became a cornerstone of the supply networks that sustained the revolution,” Tachrifet added.
The Minister further noted that national independence marked a “bright chapter” in Ben Bella’s journey. Following his election as President, he faced the daunting task of rebuilding a society ravaged by colonial policies. He also took firm stances on African issues, demonstrating his continued commitment to progress.
Tachrifet emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Algerian history for future generations, aligning with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s focus on instilling historical awareness and honoring national heroes. He underlined the President’s dedication to national memory, aimed at fortifying the nation and reinforcing the spiritual and cultural values of the Algerian people, thereby strengthening national unity and societal cohesion.
“The writing and preservation of our national history and cultural heritage are of increasing importance to the state,” the Minister asserted, highlighting the government’s commitment to various programs and activities designed to disseminate historical knowledge and ensure intergenerational communication.
