Algiers, December 16, 2025 – Algeria and Ethiopia are on the verge of signing a significant agreement aimed at bolstering judicial cooperation between the two nations. This development follows a meeting held earlier today at the Ministry of Justice in Algiers.
The Algerian Minister of Justice, Boujemaa Lotfi, received the Ethiopian State Minister of Justice, Belayhun Yirga, along with accompanying officials. Discussions centered on the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries’ Ministries of Justice, specifically focusing on judicial and legal domains.
Key areas of discussion included exploring avenues to expand collaboration, particularly through the exchange of expertise and the activation of institutional cooperation.
The meeting coincides with a visit by the Ethiopian delegation to Algeria from December 14th to 18th. This visit marks the third round of Algerian-Ethiopian negotiations dedicated to reviewing draft agreements pertaining to judicial cooperation. These agreements cover a range of critical areas, including civil and commercial matters, criminal justice, and extradition procedures.
Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to foster institutional cooperation between the two ministries has been finalized. Both parties expressed their commitment to signing the MOU at the earliest opportunity, paving the way for enhanced collaboration in the legal sphere.
This agreement signifies a deepening of relations between Algeria and Ethiopia and highlights their commitment to strengthening judicial frameworks for mutual benefit.
