Algeria Explores Enhanced Anti-Corruption Ties with African Union

Algiers – Ms. Salima Mesrati, head of Algeria’s High Authority for Transparency, Prevention and the Fight Against Corruption, met with the Chairperson of the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption (AUABC) to discuss avenues for strengthened cooperation. The meeting, held this week, focused on exploring potential collaborations between Algeria and the AUABC in combating corruption across the continent.

According to a statement released by the High Authority, the discussions centered on identifying specific areas where Algeria and the AUABC could work together to improve transparency, prevent corrupt practices, and effectively prosecute corruption-related offenses. This includes sharing best practices, providing technical assistance, and coordinating efforts to track and recover illicit assets.

“This meeting underscores Algeria’s commitment to fighting corruption both domestically and regionally,” stated a source within the High Authority. “We believe that by working closely with the African Union and other member states, we can make significant progress in curbing corruption and promoting good governance.”

The High Authority for Transparency, Prevention and the Fight Against Corruption is Algeria’s primary institution responsible for implementing anti-corruption strategies and enforcing relevant laws. The AUABC plays a crucial role in promoting the adoption of anti-corruption measures among African Union member states and monitoring their implementation. This collaboration aims to bolster both Algeria’s and the continent’s efforts to combat corruption and promote sustainable development.

Further details on specific initiatives and collaborative projects are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as both parties solidify their plans for enhanced cooperation.
