Miami, Florida – American and Russian officials are scheduled to meet in Miami, Florida this weekend for further discussions regarding President Donald Trump’s proposed plan to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, a White House official confirmed to DZWatch.
According to sources, the American delegation is expected to include Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law. Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, will reportedly be part of the Russian delegation.
These talks follow recent positive remarks from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding progress made during two days of meetings in Berlin between Kyiv and Trump’s envoys. However, Zelensky also cautioned that Moscow is preparing for “another year of war.”
Recent weeks have seen intensified diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the nearly four-year-long conflict. Witkoff and Kushner met with President Putin in the Kremlin in November, and have engaged with Ukrainian and European leaders in Berlin. Despite these efforts, significant differences remain between the parties.
Both Ukraine and the United States have indicated progress on the issue of future security guarantees for Kyiv. However, disagreements persist regarding the territorial concessions Ukraine may be required to make.
President Putin stated on Wednesday that Moscow will “certainly” achieve its objectives in the war, including control over territories it claims as its own. Russia launched its military offensive against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, demanding that Kyiv abandon its aspirations to join Western military alliances, a condition Kyiv views as an infringement on its sovereignty.
