December 18, 2025 – Several national roads across Algeria have been temporarily closed due to recent severe weather and subsequent flooding. The affected routes are located in the western and southwestern regions of the country.
According to reports, the National Route 6J, specifically the section connecting the municipalities of Djenniene Bourezg and Ain Sefra in the Naama province, has been shut down. The closure is a direct result of significantly elevated water levels inundating the roadway, making passage unsafe for vehicles.
Similarly, National Route 47 in the El Bayadh province is also experiencing closures. This disruption affects the stretch of road linking the provinces of El Bayadh and Naama, particularly near the municipality of Chellala. Authorities cite the same cause: dangerously high water levels obstructing the road.
Local units are currently deployed to the affected areas to provide assistance, manage traffic flow, and raise awareness among the public regarding the hazardous conditions. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and exercise extreme caution when traveling in these regions. Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
Authorities are monitoring water levels closely and will reopen the roads as soon as it is safe to do so. The public is urged to stay informed about the latest developments and heed the advice of local officials.
