Explore the hypothetical scenario of combining all explosives dropped on Gaza into a single nuclear bomb, revealing the catastrophic consequences and comparing it to historical events.

The Devastating Impact: If Gaza’s Bombardment Explosives Were One Nuclear Bomb

Since the onset of the Israeli offensive on Gaza, the Israeli military has dropped thousands of tons of explosives on the region. But what if we were to combine these explosives into one single bomb and detonate it? What would be the impact?

The Israeli military initiated a relentless bombing campaign on the Gaza Strip starting on October 7th, following the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation launched by Palestinian resistance against the Gaza envelope settlements. This operation resulted in over 1,400 Israeli casualties, including between 200 to 250 soldiers and officers captured.

As of Thursday, November 2nd, the death toll in Gaza has reached 9,061 since the beginning of the Israeli aggression.

How Much Explosive Was Dropped on Gaza?
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reported today that Israel has dropped over 25,000 tons of explosives on the Gaza Strip as part of its ongoing extensive warfare since October 7th.

The monitor added that Israel deliberately used a mixture known as RDX, also referred to as “the complete explosive science,” which has 1.34 times the power of TNT.

This means that the explosives dropped on Gaza are equivalent to over 30,000 tons.

An infographic illustrates the result of detonating a 30-kiloton nuclear bomb in Gaza City if we were to combine all explosives Israel has dropped on Gaza into one single bomb. The explosion would result in 177,230 fatalities and 285,700 injuries. Within a 238-meter radius, everything would evaporate, both humans and stone. Most residential buildings would collapse within a 2.18-kilometer radius, and third-degree burns would afflict everyone within a 2.54-kilometer radius, destroying all skin layers and nerves. The blast wave would shatter glass windows up to 6.14 kilometers away.

30,000 Tons in One Bomb
If we were to consolidate all explosives Israel has dropped on Gaza into one bomb, we would have a nuclear weapon with a 30-kiloton yield.

Using the “NUKEMAP” tool, which calculates the impact of a nuclear bomb detonated over a specific city, we set the yield to 30 kilotons, detonated in the air, to get the following results:

  • The explosion would result in 177,230 deaths, meaning the explosives Israel has dropped are enough to kill over 177,000 people in Gaza.
  • There would be 285,700 injuries.
  • Everything within a 238-meter radius would vaporize.
  • Most residential buildings within a 2.18-kilometer radius would collapse, causing widespread fatalities and igniting fires in commercial and residential buildings that remain standing.
  • Within a 2.54-kilometer radius, everyone would suffer third-degree burns, potentially causing severe scarring or disability, and possibly requiring amputation.
  • The blast wave would break glass windows, causing numerous injuries to residents near the windows, extending up to 6.14 kilometers.

The blast wave would reach the sea to the west and the Gaza envelope area to the east.

More Destructive Than Hiroshima
It is worth noting that the nuclear bomb dropped by the United States on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan at the end of World War II was estimated to be around 15,000 tons of explosives.

This means that the destructive power of the explosives dropped on Gaza exceeds that of Hiroshima, keeping in mind that the area of the Japanese city is 900 square kilometers, while Gaza’s area is only about 360 square kilometers, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor.
