The 26th edition of the Algiers International Book Fair (SILA 2023) has concluded with a historic turnout, recording an impressive 2,791,722 visitors just hours before its closure. The event, which has become a cornerstone in the cultural calendar of Algeria, has once again demonstrated its significance and popularity among book enthusiasts and professionals alike.

The fair’s curator, Mohamed Igerb, expressed his delight at the closing ceremony held at the Exhibition Palace, noting the record-breaking participation that surpassed previous years. “It is with great pleasure that we mark the end of this year’s event, which has been a resounding success across all its activities, spanning an area of 230,000 square meters,” Igerb stated.

Igerb highlighted the peak of attendance on the 1st of November, with 682,293 visitors, and on the 3rd of November, with 671,830 visitors, not including children and pregnant women. These numbers reflect the Algerian public’s significant interest in this cultural event.

The fair boasted more than 300,000 titles across various disciplines, and the 26th edition saw the participation of 230 guests, including writers, researchers, academics, and historians. Additionally, the event scheduled 480 cultural activities across different spaces, enriching the experience for attendees.

The spokesperson emphasized the Algiers International Book Fair’s status as one of the largest book fairs in the world and the foremost in the Arab world, Africa, and the Mediterranean region in terms of participation, attendance, and sales.

As the 26th edition of the Algiers International Book Fair comes to a close tonight at 22:00, it leaves behind a legacy of literary celebration and cultural exchange that will be remembered until next year’s event.
