Algiers – The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments announced today that the first day of Rajab in the year 1447 AH will be observed on Sunday. This announcement marks the beginning of the seventh month in the Islamic lunar calendar.
In a statement released earlier today, the ministry confirmed the sighting of the new crescent moon, signaling the end of Jumada al-Thani and the commencement of Rajab. Consequently, religious observances and activities associated with the month of Rajab will commence accordingly.
Rajab is considered one of the four sacred months in Islam, a time of increased devotion and spiritual reflection. Muslims often observe voluntary fasts, offer extra prayers, and engage in charitable deeds during this period.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments has indicated that the traditional readings of Sahih al-Bukhari will begin in mosques across the country starting next Monday. This practice is a customary feature during Rajab, providing an opportunity for the community to deepen their understanding of Islamic teachings and traditions.
The ministry extends its best wishes to all citizens on the occasion of the new month, encouraging them to maximize the spiritual benefits of Rajab through prayer, reflection, and acts of kindness.
The announcement was made on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
