Algiers – The Algerian diaspora actively participated in celebrations marking World Arabic Language Day, in an event overseen by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, and the President of the Higher Council of the Arabic Language, Dr. Saleh Belaid.
The commemoration, held with the extensive involvement of Algerian diplomatic and consular missions worldwide, featured, for the first time, the dedicated engagement of sons and daughters of the Algerian community residing abroad. A comprehensive month-long program encompassed diverse educational activities, cultural performances, artistic displays, lectures, workshops, intellectual discussions, and competitions. Participants expressed their commitment to their national identity and pride in their cultural and civilizational heritage.
In his address, the Secretary of State emphasized the high priority given by Algerian authorities to promoting the Arabic language. He affirmed the state’s commitment to enhancing Arabic language education for the diaspora, recognizing it as a fundamental pillar of national identity and a crucial element in preserving the cultural and civilizational belonging of future generations.
He also announced the upcoming launch of several educational initiatives, developed in coordination with various ministerial sectors, to address the cultural and educational needs of the Algerian community abroad. This includes efforts to establish Algerian cultural centers abroad, serving as hubs for the Arabic language and platforms for cultural exchange. Additionally, educational and cultural visits to Algeria will be organized for students from the diaspora.
Dr. Belaid commended the unique character of the event, praising the qualitative participation of Algerians worldwide. He called for continued efforts to preserve the national linguistic and cultural heritage, strengthening ties with the homeland. He also highlighted the cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Higher Council of the Arabic Language, ensuring the promotion and consolidation of the Arabic language among Algerians living abroad.DZWatch will continue to follow these developments.
