Setif, Algeria – The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications today inaugurated the official union for Algeria Post, marking a significant step towards improved labor relations within the state-owned postal service. The founding conference, held in Setif on Sunday, December 21, 2025, was attended by Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, alongside local authorities, representatives of social partners, and sector executives.
The event saw the presence of the Governor of Setif, Mustapha Limani, the Secretary-General of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA), Amar Tagjout, and the Secretary-General of the National Federation of Post and Telecommunications Workers, Mohamed Bourouba. The Director-General of Algeria Post, Chiraz Bechiri, also attended, along with numerous worker representatives and industry officials.
In his address, Minister Zerrouki emphasized that the establishment of the national union for Algeria Post underscores the sector’s commitment to fostering social dialogue and promoting partnerships with labor organizations. He hailed the move as a crucial milestone in improving the professional environment within the institution.
Zerrouki further noted that the union will serve as a vital partner in supporting the institution by adopting dialogue as a constructive mechanism to address workers’ professional and social concerns, improve working conditions, and ultimately enhance the institution’s performance and the quality of services provided to citizens.
The Minister reiterated the ministry’s dedication to supporting all initiatives that promote social stability within the sector, thereby serving the best interests of workers, the institution, and the public alike. This new union is expected to play a key role in future negotiations regarding employee welfare and the overall efficiency of Algeria Post.
