ALGIERS – In anticipation of the upcoming 2026 Brevet d’Enseignement Moyen (BEM) and Baccalaureate examinations, the Ministry of National Education has announced updated procedures for independent (free) candidates. These changes aim to ensure the accuracy of academic level verification during the registration process.
The new directives, detailed in official instruction number 277 dated November 17, 2025, focus on reinforcing the integrity of registration data for candidates not enrolled in traditional schooling. The ministry’s communication, addressed to regional education directors, the head of the National Office for Distance Education and Training (ONEFD), and administrators of both public and private educational institutions, underscores the importance of verifying candidates’ declared academic standing.
Specifically, the updated procedures target the validation of the required educational level for candidacy. For the BEM, this involves confirming completion of the fourth year of middle school (or ninth grade). For the Baccalaureate, the focus is on verifying completion of the third year of secondary school. This verification process will utilize data submitted by candidates through the official ONEEC registration portals: https://bac.onec.dz and https://bem.onec.dz.
The Ministry of National Education’s information system will display a list of registered free candidates for each educational institution (both public and private) through the “Official Examinations” interface and the “Academic Level Verification” icon. This list will be tailored to each institution based on the information provided by candidates during registration.
School principals, using their credentials on the ministry’s digital platform, will be responsible for reviewing each candidate’s information, including name, date of birth, academic year, registration number, and, for Baccalaureate candidates, their chosen field of study. Principals will then digitally confirm the accuracy of this data. In cases where discrepancies arise regarding the educational institution or the declared academic level, principals will indicate the issue by selecting an appropriate option within the system, noting if the candidate did not attend the institution or has not completed the required level. This meticulous verification process is intended to prevent errors and ensure a fair and accurate examination process for all candidates.
