Algeria Inaugurates First Children’s Parliament

Algiers – Algeria has officially inaugurated its first Children’s Parliament today, Monday, December 22, 2025, in a ceremony held at the National People’s Assembly headquarters in Algiers.

The establishment of this pioneering initiative aims to provide Algerian children with a practical experience embodying the core principles of dialogue, responsibility, and active participation in public affairs. The Children’s Parliament is envisioned as a platform where young citizens can learn about the workings of government and contribute their perspectives on issues affecting their lives and the future of the nation.

The inaugural session witnessed the swearing-in of young representatives from across the country, selected to represent the diverse voices and interests of Algerian children. The initiative hopes to foster a sense of civic duty and empower the younger generation to become engaged and informed citizens.

“This is a momentous occasion for Algeria,” stated a representative from the Ministry of Education. “By establishing this Children’s Parliament, we are investing in the future of our country and empowering our youth to become active participants in shaping that future.”

The newly formed parliament is expected to address a range of issues relevant to children, including education, healthcare, and environmental protection. It will also serve as a forum for young people to voice their concerns and propose solutions to challenges facing their communities.

The creation of the Children’s Parliament reflects Algeria’s commitment to promoting the rights and well-being of its young citizens. It represents a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive and participatory democracy, where the voices of all members of society, including children, are heard and valued.

The initiative is being closely watched by other nations in the region, with many expressing interest in replicating the model in their own countries. The Algerian Children’s Parliament is poised to become a leading example of youth empowerment and civic engagement in the Arab world.
