Algiers, December 22, 2025 – The Algerian national football team, Les Fennecs, has moved up one spot in the latest FIFA world ranking, concluding the year at 34th globally with a total of 1517.68 points.
The rise in the rankings reflects Algeria’s positive performance in recent friendly matches. The team, led by captain Riyad Mahrez, secured victories against Zimbabwe (3-1) and Saudi Arabia (2-0) in November. The performance of the national ‘A’ team in the Arab Cup also contributed to the improved ranking.
Within the Arab world, Algeria now holds the 3rd position, trailing behind Morocco, who gained 3.22 points in the new FIFA ranking, and Senegal, who maintained their position with their previous points tally.
This advancement comes as Algeria prepares to kick off its Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign this Wednesday against Sudan. The team will be looking to build on its recent success and make a strong impression in the prestigious tournament. Fans across Algeria are eagerly anticipating the start of AFCON, hoping to see Les Fennecs bring home the trophy.
The FIFA ranking update provides a morale boost for the Algerian squad as they enter a crucial period. The team’s performance in AFCON will undoubtedly influence their future ranking and further solidify their position on the global stage.
