Tipaza, Algeria – National Gendarmerie units in Tipaza province have apprehended a driver for driving against the flow of traffic on the highway connecting Bou Ismail and Tipaza. The arrest is part of ongoing efforts to combat traffic-related offenses and ensure road safety.
The operation was launched after a video circulated on social media platforms showing a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the highway. The incident occurred in the Balili area, past the western exit of Bou Ismail, posing a significant threat to other road users.
DZWatch has learned that investigators analyzed the video and, in coordination with the group’s cybercrime unit, were able to identify and locate the driver. The vehicle used in the dangerous maneuver has been impounded pending a court decision.
The Regional Road Safety Unit of the National Gendarmerie in Tipaza has opened an investigation into the incident. The driver faces charges of endangering the lives and physical safety of others by driving in the wrong direction.
