Algeria Launches Initiative to Substitute Imports, Boost Local Production

Algiers – A study day dedicated to import substitution has commenced today as part of the 33rd Algerian Production Fair. The event, organized by the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), is being held under the theme: “Directing Investment for Strong and Diversified Production.”

The Director-General of AAPI, Omar Rekkache, is attending the study day alongside key government figures, including the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamal Rezig, the Minister of Internal Trade and Regulation of the National Market, Amel Abdelatif, and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Fisheries, Yacine Mehdi Oualid.

The forum brings together officials and representatives from various ministries and government bodies involved in streamlining imports and promoting national production. Representatives from financial institutions, professional organizations, employers, investors, and economic operators are also participating, in addition to experts and researchers in the economic field.

This study day serves as a platform for consultation and the exchange of ideas, aiming to foster direct dialogue with economic operators and investors. A key objective is to identify available investment opportunities and address obstacles hindering the development of local production. Furthermore, the event will highlight successful experiences and best practices in the field of import substitution, with the goal of creating a more robust and self-reliant Algerian economy.

The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening domestic industries and reducing reliance on foreign imports.
