In a significant blow to organized crime, the National Gendarmerie in Oran has successfully dismantled a drug trafficking network involved in the distribution of narcotics and psychotropic substances. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crime and protect the community.
The operation was the result of coordinated interventions by the National Gendarmerie’s Regional Brigade in Nejma and the Research and Investigation Department in Oran. Following extensive field investigations and the effective utilization of intelligence, authorities were able to identify and apprehend members of a criminal network operating across several districts of Oran.
The raids led to the arrest of eight individuals, some with prior criminal records. Authorities seized a substantial quantity of illicit substances, including 2,000 ecstasy tablets, 2,940 pregabalin tablets, 66 grams of cocaine, and 1 kilogram of processed cannabis.
In addition to the drugs, law enforcement officials confiscated 36 million centimes believed to be proceeds from drug sales. A passenger vehicle, a spearfishing gun, bladed weapons, and mobile phones used in the criminal enterprise were also seized.
Following the completion of legal procedures, the suspects were presented before the competent judicial authorities. They face charges related to the possession, trafficking, and sale of narcotics and psychotropic substances within the framework of an organized criminal group. The successful operation highlights the commitment of the National Gendarmerie to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and security of Oran’s residents.
