DZWatch has learned that a major drug smuggling operation was successfully intercepted in Illizi, thanks to the collaborative efforts of customs officials and the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP).
Agents from the specialized regional unit for combating smuggling and narcotics, under the Regional Directorate of Customs in Illizi, in coordination with ANP personnel, seized a substantial quantity of hallucinogenic tablets. The haul amounted to 985,931 tablets of the Pregabalin 300mg type.
A statement released by the Customs services emphasized that this significant operation was the result of joint anti-smuggling efforts, and the vigilance of customs agents, as well as effective field coordination with the ANP.
The statement further revealed that the seized narcotics were meticulously concealed within the sand dunes, prepared for smuggling across borders. This incident underscores the increasingly sophisticated criminal methods employed by smuggling networks. It also highlights the effectiveness of Algerian security forces in countering these illicit activities.
DZWatch will continue to monitor this developing story and provide updates as they become available. The successful interception represents a significant victory in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the region. Law enforcement agencies remain committed to dismantling these criminal organizations and safeguarding the nation’s borders.
The operation serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by transnational crime and the crucial role played by Algerian security forces in maintaining national security.
