Private Schools Embroiled in Grade Forgery Scandal

Algiers, December 25, 2025 – A number of private schools in Algeria have been implicated in a widespread scandal involving the falsification of student grades, DZWatch has learned. The Minister of National Education has vowed to take decisive action against any institutions found to be compromising the integrity of the national education system.

Minister Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui revealed today that his ministry has uncovered evidence of private schools manipulating first-term student results. The allegations, which have sent shockwaves through the education sector, are currently under investigation.

Responding to questions from members of the Council of the Nation earlier today, Minister Saadaoui emphasized the government’s firm stance against treating education as a purely commercial and profit-driven enterprise. He stated unequivocally that his ministry will not tolerate any actions that undermine the integrity of the educational system or the credibility of national qualifications.

‘We are committed to safeguarding the future of our students and upholding the standards of our education system,’ the Minister asserted. ‘Any institution found guilty of manipulating grades will face severe consequences.’

The Minister further indicated that inspection services will intensify their efforts to ensure strict adherence to educational curricula and regulations governing the operation of private educational institutions. These inspections will focus on identifying and addressing any irregularities or violations that may compromise the quality of education being provided.

Minister Saadaoui pledged to continue ongoing reforms aimed at rectifying existing imbalances within the education sector. The goal, he stated, is to preserve the role of private schools as genuine centers of education and learning, rather than simply commercial ventures. The Ministry aims to ensure a level playing field where all students are assessed fairly and accurately, regardless of the type of institution they attend.
