Oran Crowned Africa’s Top Emerging Tourist Destination for 2025

Oran has been awarded the prestigious Golden Award as Africa’s leading emerging tourist destination for 2025 by the African-Asian Union for Tourism, E-Commerce, and Economics. The award ceremony took place Thursday evening in Oran.

The Secretary-General of the Wilaya, Fadil Laidani, received the award on behalf of the Wali, Ibrahim Ouchen, from Dr. Hossam Darwish, President of the African-Asian Union, and Ashraf Mahmoud Abu Aish, the Union’s Secretary-General. The event was attended by Moussa Ben Thamer, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism and Traditional Industry, Abdelwahab Boulfakhad, President of the National Federation of Hotels and Tourism, and other key figures in the tourism sector.

Speaking to the press, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism and Traditional Industry emphasized that this recognition is a result of the extensive development programs implemented by the state in the wilaya, combined with its rich historical and cultural heritage. He added that Oran’s diverse tourist attractions, investments, continuous development throughout the year, and significant infrastructure, including road networks, airports, ports, and tourist facilities, have made it a premier tourist destination.

The President of the National Federation of Hotels and Tourism stated that Oran’s crowning as Africa’s top emerging destination is a testament to the significant efforts made by the state, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who places particular importance on this strategic sector. He noted that Oran has successfully leveraged its geographical location, heritage, and culture to become a leading tourist destination in the region. The artistic, cinematic, and sporting events hosted in recent years have contributed to showcasing an attractive image of the western Algerian capital.

Dr. Hossam Darwish, President of the African-Asian Union for Tourism, E-Commerce, and Economics, explained that Oran’s selection was based on rigorous criteria, highlighting its remarkable growth and potential in the tourism sector.
