Ankara, Turkey – Turkey’s Defense Industries Agency announced today the successful completion of the first firing test of the domestically developed Winged Guidance Kit, KGK-84. The test, conducted by defense contractor ASELSAN, demonstrated the system’s high precision in striking its intended target.
Haluk Görgün, President of the Defense Industries Agency, shared a video of the test on the Turkish social media platform ‘In Social,’ confirming that the kit was launched from an F-16 fighter jet and accurately hit its target. The successful test marks a significant milestone in Turkey’s advancements in guidance technologies.
Görgün emphasized that the new kit showcases Turkey’s advanced capabilities in guidance technology. He highlighted its ability to strike targets from long distances and follow pre-determined paths with exceptional accuracy. Furthermore, he noted the advanced technologies incorporated into the KGK-84, giving it a competitive edge on the global stage.
He further stated that the development of Turkish guidance systems, using domestically developed engineering capabilities, underscores the commitment of the defense industries to achieve self-sufficiency and enhance technological prowess. These successes, he added, are the result of a strategic vision to produce national solutions that can compete globally.
Ahmet Akyol, General Manager of ASELSAN, stated that the new kit will be a ‘game-changer’ due to its destructive power and offensive capabilities. He explained that the kit features an unpowered design, making it a cost-effective option, while still maintaining a long-range operational capability for munitions weighing up to one ton. The system also allows for selection of the impact angle and boasts high resistance to jamming.
The KGK-84 represents a significant step forward for Turkey’s domestic defense industry and its pursuit of technological independence. DZWatch will continue to follow developments in this area.
