Russia Launches Major Attack on Kyiv: Key Details

Kyiv was the target of a significant Russian attack early Saturday, prompting Ukrainian authorities to issue warnings of incoming missiles and the Air Force to declare a nationwide alert. The assault follows a series of overnight missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, impacting regions including Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, and Zhytomyr.

The intensified attacks coincide with Russia’s steady territorial gains in eastern Ukraine, where they claim to be capturing new villages and towns weekly.

This latest offensive on Kyiv differed from previous ones due to its extended duration, use of various destructive weapons, and broad scope within the capital. The scale of the attack, the second on Kyiv in 48 hours, triggered the activation of Ukraine’s air defense systems and a nationwide alert.

Explosions echoed throughout the capital for hours as missiles and drones were intercepted. The attack began in the early hours of Saturday morning and continued until dawn.

According to Ukrainian media reports, Russia employed hypersonic “Kinzhal” missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones in the widespread assault on Ukrainian cities.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that eight people were injured in the overnight and morning attacks. The Kyiv administration stated that heating has been disrupted in over 2,600 residential buildings, 187 kindergartens, and 138 schools in the capital. Power outages are affecting 320,000 households.

Ukraine has declared a nationwide air alert. A military Telegram channel reported the deployment of cruise and ballistic missiles within the city as part of Kyiv’s activated air defense system.
