El Bayadh Authorities Seize Uninspected Meat Products

El Bayadh, Algeria – December 27, 2025 – Security services in Bougtob, El Bayadh province, have seized approximately 300 kilograms of bovine and ovine offal that had not undergone mandatory pre-consumption conformity inspections. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and consumer protection within the region.

According to a statement released by the El Bayadh Provincial Security Directorate, the seizure occurred after a refrigerated truck was stopped and inspected. The inspection revealed a cargo of red meat, consisting of carcasses of both sheep and cattle. Further investigation uncovered a substantial quantity of bovine and ovine livers and hearts, packaged in 18 plastic crates, weighing an estimated 258.958 kilograms.

Crucially, this quantity of offal was not documented on the health certificate issued by the veterinary inspectorate, nor was it included in the accompanying invoice, the statement emphasized. In coordination with the veterinarian from the Bougtob agricultural district, a thorough inspection and inventory of the seized goods was conducted. The findings confirmed a violation of regulations mandating pre-consumption conformity inspections.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the individual responsible for the violation, and the case has been forwarded to the Bougtob court. The seized meat products have been designated for public benefit, under the continuous supervision of both the owner of the goods and the attending veterinarian. This action underscores the authorities’ commitment to upholding food safety standards and preventing the distribution of uninspected products to the public.
