Zelensky: Russia Shows No Intent to End War After Kyiv Attack

Following a devastating attack on Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asserted that Russia demonstrates no genuine intention to bring the ongoing conflict to an end. The recent assault, which targeted critical infrastructure and civilian facilities, has drawn strong condemnation from the Ukrainian leader.

Zelensky stated that the Russian offensive involved approximately 500 drones and 40 missiles, resulting in at least one fatality and 19 injuries. Of those injured, 11 required hospitalization. The attacks specifically targeted energy infrastructure, leaving thousands without essential services.

“If Russia turns even the Christmas and New Year period into a time of ruined homes, burned apartments, and destroyed power stations, then the response to this sick activity can only be truly strong steps,” Zelensky posted on X, urging the United States and Europe to increase pressure on Moscow.

Zelensky is scheduled to travel to Florida to meet with former U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss potential pathways towards ending the war. These discussions come after nearly four years of relentless Russian military action against Ukraine, including near-daily bombardments of Kyiv.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the overnight attacks caused a fire in a residential building and disrupted heating services to approximately 2,600 residential buildings, 187 kindergartens, 138 schools, and 22 social service facilities.

In response, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that its forces conducted a large-scale strike using high-precision, long-range air, land, and sea-based weaponry, including “Kinzhal” missiles. The ministry stated that the targets were energy infrastructure facilities supplying Ukrainian forces.
