In Iran, opinions are split between those advocating for indirect support through influence and those demanding direct action to halt the Israeli offenses. Mohammad Javad Zarif, the former Foreign Minister, sides with the former, highlighting the constitutional imperative to defend the oppressed while emphasizing the need for prudence in engagement.

During a symposium titled “The Palestinian Issue from the Perspective of International Law” in Tehran, Zarif underlined that defending the Palestinian people currently means avoiding providing Israel with excuses to label them as proxies of other forces. He also refuted the historical claims of Israel’s rights over Palestinian territories, asserting the failure of Israel in the battle of Al-Aqsa Flood.

Zarif’s stance has sparked significant interaction in Iranian media and social platforms, revealing a sharp dichotomy. Some focus on his statement about the Iranian populace’s fatigue from bearing the brunt of others’ conflicts, while others view Tehran as a key player in the current battle, a fact underscored by America’s communications with Iran.

Amidst this, Tehran’s former ambassador to Jordan and Lebanon, Ahmad Dastmalchian, defended Zarif’s “correct positions,” clarifying that Iran’s military doctrine is defensive and deterrent, focusing on the element of a “second strike” in case of a threat to sovereignty.

Contrastingly, political analyst Mehdi Azizi believes that Iran’s revolutionary ethos has always been to confront Israel and support the oppressed, even before its victory in 1979. He warns against abandoning the resistance front, which could embolden Israel to target these groups one by one.

The Iranian debate on the Gaza conflict support strategies remains a pivotal topic of discussion, with various factions presenting divergent views on the path forward. Gaza conflict support
