Colombia has announced its alliance with Algeria in a legal initiative that Algeria plans to submit to the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israel, citing violations against Palestinians.

On Thursday, November 9th, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, in a post on his ‘X’ account, formerly known as Twitter, stated, “The Republic of Colombia will contribute to the complaint that the Republic of Algeria presented before the ICC, accusing Benjamin Netanyahu of committing war crimes during the massacre against Palestinian children and civilians.”

President Petro also declared that the Colombian Foreign Minister is set to meet with the ICC’s Chief Prosecutor today, Friday, November 10th.

Earlier, on Monday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had called upon “all free people of the world” to initiate legal action at the ICC against the Israeli occupation for crimes against Palestinians. During the inauguration of the new judicial year, President Tebboune appealed to “all free people of the world, Arabs, and international bodies to file a lawsuit against the Zionist entity’s violations of Palestinian people’s rights.” ICC Lawsuit Palestinian Rights

He further emphasized that this step represents a way to end the decades-long impunity of the Zionist occupation, adding that it also serves as a refuge for Palestinian brethren to reclaim their right to establish an independent state.

President Petro, on his part, has been a staunch defender of the Palestinian cause since October 7th, frequently expressing solidarity through social media and in his speeches where he has condemned the actions of Israel.

As DZWatch.net continues to cover these developments, we remain committed to shedding light on the pivotal legal maneuvers and diplomatic solidarity that define the ongoing support for Palestinian rights within the international legal framework.
