Sudan Army Recaptures Al-Dankoj Amid Ethnic Killing Allegations

KORDOFAN – The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced Saturday the recapture of the strategic town of Al-Dankoj in North Kordofan state. This development comes amid accusations leveled against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of perpetrating ethnically motivated killings.

According to a source within the SAF, Al-Dankoj, located north of Al-Ubayyid, the capital of North Kordofan, was retaken after intense clashes with the RSF. The RSF had briefly seized the town earlier on Saturday before being forced to retreat towards Bara, the second-largest city in the state.

Al-Dankoj’s strategic importance stems from its position between Al-Ubayyid, which is under SAF control, and Bara, held by the RSF.

The SAF also reported the deaths of dozens of RSF fighters in airstrikes near Burno, South Kordofan. The strikes reportedly destroyed eight RSF combat vehicles. The SAF claimed the RSF elements were massing south of Burno, allegedly preparing to attack SAF positions near Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan.

Meanwhile, the Joint Force of armed movements in Darfur stated that they repelled an RSF attack on several northern areas of North Darfur. The Joint Force, fighting alongside the SAF, accused the RSF of escalating attacks against civilians in areas such as Abu Qamra, aiming to forcibly displace residents and those already displaced from Al-Fashir.

Ethnic Violence Claims

In a related development, the Sudanese Doctors’ Network has accused the RSF of killing over 200 people, including children and women, based on their ethnicity in the Umbro and Serba areas of North Darfur. The network warns that continued violations could trigger a massive refugee influx into Chad. They further assert that international silence and inaction effectively constitute complicity in these alleged crimes.
