Algeria Strengthens Ties with Diaspora Youth, Opens Development Pathways

Algiers – Algeria is intensifying its efforts to connect with young members of its diaspora, offering them opportunities to participate in the nation’s development. This initiative aims to foster a stronger sense of belonging and encourage their involvement in Algeria’s future.

The Secretary of State in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, recently welcomed a group of Algerian students from the diaspora as part of the “Winter University” program. This program, organized in collaboration with various ministries, institutions, and national bodies, represents a significant step in supporting Algerian students living abroad.

This unprecedented initiative brought together 52 students from over 20 countries across the globe, showcasing the growing interest in the younger generation of the diaspora and strengthening their connection to their homeland. The Winter University aims to provide participants with firsthand insights into Algeria’s economic, scientific, and cultural transformations. It also highlights the opportunities and potential the country offers in various fields.

Furthermore, the program introduces students to public policies designed to benefit the diaspora and creates a platform for exchanging experiences and building bridges between students from different countries. The week-long event includes a diverse range of activities, such as field visits to university and research centers, national institutions, and cultural and tourist excursions. These activities aim to showcase Algeria’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

During an interactive meeting with the students, the Secretary of State emphasized that such initiatives contribute to instilling a sense of belonging and pride in national identity among the diaspora youth. He reiterated the commitment of the highest authorities in the country to support Algerian talent living abroad, providing assistance and encouraging their active participation in national development. He also praised the coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other national sectors and bodies in ensuring the success of these unique initiatives. This collaborative approach is essential for fostering a strong and lasting connection between Algeria and its diaspora.
