Homs Mourns Victims of Mosque Bombing; UN Chief Condemns Attack

Homs, Syria – Residents of Homs today mourned the victims of a bombing that targeted the Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib Mosque in the Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood yesterday. Funerals were held for five of the deceased at the Al-Firdous Cemetery, while the remains of other victims were transported to their hometowns in various regions.

Hundreds of Homs residents, along with official and community representatives, participated in the funeral processions amid heightened security measures. According to Syrian state media, SANA, Sheikh Mohi Eddin Salloum, the Imam and preacher of the Ali Ibn Abi Talib Mosque, stated during the funeral that the bombing was a “desperate attempt by Syria’s enemies to undermine the unity of the Syrian people and destabilize the country.”

He emphasized that such acts would not weaken the faith of Syrians in the strength of civil peace and that national unity remains the most important weapon in confronting these attacks. The bombing on Friday at the Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib Mosque in the Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood resulted in the deaths of eight people and injured more than eighteen others. This incident has sparked widespread condemnation at Arab, regional, and international levels, with investigations ongoing to identify the perpetrators.

SANA quoted a security source stating that initial investigations indicate the explosion was caused by explosive devices planted within the mosque’s premises.
