Drug Trafficker Arrested in Sidi Bel Abbes with 20kg of Cannabis

Sidi Bel Abbes, Algeria – A 35-year-old individual has been apprehended in Sidi Bel Abbes on charges of drug trafficking, following a joint operation between the National Gendarmerie and Customs services.

The arrest, which took place on November 18th, is part of ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in the region. The operation involved the territorial brigade of the National Gendarmerie of Bir El Hammam and the regional anti-narcotics unit of the Tlemcen Customs service. Authorities set up a security checkpoint at intersection number 95.

During the operation, law enforcement officers stopped a vehicle arriving from a western province. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed packages wrapped in plastic tape, concealed within the car. These packages contained 200 slabs of processed cannabis, totaling 20 kilograms.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the headquarters of the regional Gendarmerie group in Sidi Bel Abbes for further investigation. The investigation resulted in the seizure of the 20 kilograms of processed cannabis, a mobile phone, and the vehicle used to transport the drugs.

All necessary legal measures have been taken against the suspect, who will be presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Telagh court.
