Work is progressing on the ambitious project to connect Martyrs’ Square (Place des Martyrs) to the La Pêcherie port park in Algiers. The Governor of Algiers, Mohamed Abdellah Nourel Rabhi, recently conducted an inspection of the project, accompanied by the CEO of the Cosider Group, the primary contractor.
The project aims to seamlessly integrate the historical Martyrs’ Square with the revitalized La Pêcherie park. The park is undergoing continuous development, with phased openings to the public. The initial phase, including underground passages and a commercial center, has already been inaugurated.
During the inspection, the Governor assessed the construction progress of a panoramic terrace overlooking the park. The project also includes a parking facility with a capacity of 400 vehicles. Officials presented a detailed overview of the Martyrs’ Square redevelopment plan, which encompasses an area of 7,986 square meters.
The redevelopment will feature a complete renovation of the square, incorporating elevated glass walkways above the archaeological remains. These walkways will allow visitors to explore the historical artifacts. Furthermore, the plan includes the installation of elevators and escalators to facilitate access between the square and La Pêcherie park.
The presentation also covered the development of various spaces and parks leading to the Mustapha Ben Boulaid parking area. The reclaimed land, following the demolition of existing buildings and warehouses from the Admiralty towards the city center, will be transformed into recreational areas and restaurants. This initiative is part of a larger effort to modernize and enhance the appeal of Algiers’ waterfront.
