Coalition forces in Yemen have conducted a targeted airstrike against what they described as external military support arriving at the port of Mukalla in the Hadramaut Governorate. The operation, according to a statement, aimed to neutralize the threat posed by illicit arms shipments.
Prior to the strike, civilians were urged to evacuate the Mukalla port area as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety. The Coalition emphasized its commitment to minimizing civilian casualties and collateral damage during the operation.
According to reports, the airstrike was precise and resulted in no reported human casualties or significant damage to the port infrastructure. The Coalition alleges that the targeted support was intended for forces linked to the Southern Transitional Council (STC), potentially exacerbating the ongoing conflict.
The Coalition further stated that two vessels, originating from Fujairah, UAE, arrived at Mukalla port in recent days without proper authorization. These vessels allegedly disabled their tracking systems and offloaded weapons intended to bolster STC forces. The Coalition views this as a violation of existing agreements and a threat to regional stability.
Coalition Spokesperson Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki stated that the operation was conducted in response to a request from Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Head Rashad al-Alimi, citing grave humanitarian violations perpetrated by armed elements affiliated with the STC. He reiterated the Coalition’s commitment to de-escalation efforts and empowering local authorities.
Brigadier General Al-Maliki emphasized that any military movements contravening these efforts will be addressed directly to protect civilian lives and support Saudi-Emirati peace initiatives. He reaffirmed the Coalition’s unwavering support for the legitimate Yemeni government and urged all parties to exercise restraint and embrace peaceful solutions to ensure security and stability.
The situation in Mukalla remains tense as the Coalition continues to monitor the port and surrounding areas.
