Algiers – Algerian universities have undergone a significant transformation in their economic role, successfully launching or initiating over 2700 micro-enterprises in just 14 months. This initiative aims to bolster the role of scientific research and higher education in supporting the national economy and converting knowledge into tangible value.
Professor Mohamed Bouhicha, Director General of Scientific Research and Technological Development, emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader policy to restructure higher education. The goal is to integrate universities into the knowledge economy, positioning them as key drivers of economic development.
Bouhicha noted that all research projects undertaken by research centers and laboratories are aligned with clear, pre-programmed objectives. Research efforts are specifically directed towards meeting the needs of social and economic partners, ensuring that research outcomes are effectively implemented.
On the international stage, Algerian researchers are currently engaged in 215 projects within the framework of Euro-Mediterranean partnerships. The majority of these projects have a significant economic impact, particularly in areas such as agriculture and technology. The capital allocated to research activities amounts to approximately 12 million dinars, with a turnover exceeding 1.5 billion dinars. The ambition is to reach 5 billion dinars by 2027.
These achievements highlight a new dynamic of entrepreneurship within Algerian universities. Micro-enterprises are emerging as vital spaces for attracting talent and transforming scientific research into viable economic projects. This strengthens the university’s position as a key player in national development.
