Petkovic Shakes Up Algeria’s Lineup for Burkina Faso Clash

National team coach Vladimir Petkovic has announced changes to the starting lineup for Sunday’s crucial match against Burkina Faso in the Africa Cup of Nations. This marks a significant shift from the team that started the opening game against Sudan.

Speaking at a press conference, Petkovic emphasized the need to provide opportunities for new players while managing the workload of those who featured in the previous two matches. He stressed that maintaining the squad’s overall fitness and continuing to build momentum are paramount.

Notably, defenders Samir Charafi and Jouan Hadjam are set to start against Burkina Faso, having been on the bench for the Sudan game. Young player Ibrahim Maze has also been given a chance, replacing Fares Chaibi in the lineup.

Petkovic has also opted for a tactical adjustment, switching from a 5-2-3 formation to a 3-4-3. This change sees Baghdad Bounedjah dropping out, with Riyad Mahrez and Mohamed Amine Amoura forming a two-man attack.

“Tomorrow, I will make some changes,” Petkovic stated. “It will be a real opportunity to show the players that we must continue to work. The opponent will also be motivated to qualify.”

The coach highlighted the importance of the match as a platform for players to showcase their abilities and contribute to the team’s continued strong performance in the continental competition. He reiterated the need to utilize each game to improve collective performance and enhance readiness for upcoming challenges. The focus remains on securing a positive result against a determined Burkina Faso side. Algeria aims to build on their campaign.
