FIFA has announced the opening of disciplinary proceedings against the Argentine Football Association and three national team players following incidents that occurred after their defeat in the World Cup final against Spain.
The investigation focuses on four potential breaches of FIFA’s Disciplinary Code. These include the use of a sporting event as a platform for non-sporting demonstrations, improper team conduct, discriminatory or racist behavior, and violations related to order and security during matches.
In its official statement, FIFA pointed to “discriminatory chants and gestures, delays in match kick-offs, and the display of inappropriate messages by both players and fans.” It also cited incidents involving supporters throwing objects during several matches. However, the organization did not provide further detailed information about these occurrences.
In a separate but related case, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee has also launched proceedings against Argentine players Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina, and Thiago Almada, as well as assistant coach Roberto Ayala. Spanish defender Gavi has also been included in the investigation.
These actions are linked to acts of violence that reportedly broke out after Spain’s victory in the final. FIFA emphasized its commitment to maintaining discipline, respect, and safety in football, and stated that further decisions will be made once the investigation process is completed.
