Algeria Eyes Third Consecutive Win Against Equatorial Guinea

Algiers, December 31, 2025 – The Algerian national football team, Les Verts, will face Equatorial Guinea today at 17:00 (local time) in their third and final group stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025.

Algeria is aiming for its third consecutive victory in the tournament, a win that would secure them a perfect nine points in the group stage. However, despite appearing to be a formality, the match against Equatorial Guinea, a team with nothing to lose, will be a challenge.

The team will be without Samir Cherki, who is sidelined with a thigh injury, and Joann Hadjam, who suffered an ankle sprain. The coaching staff hopes the rest of the team will be in top form to secure victory.

Les Verts concluded their preparations for the highly anticipated match this evening with a final training session, reportedly in high spirits. The national coach is expected to make changes to the starting lineup, a decision he confirmed yesterday during a press conference, stating that he intends to give opportunities to players who have not yet featured in previous matches.

Since the start of the continental competition, Algeria has delivered a strong performance. They began their campaign with a resounding 3-0 victory against Sudan and followed it up with a 1-0 win against Burkina Faso. Led by captain Riyad Mahrez, the team has already secured early qualification for the Round of 16.

Looking ahead, Algeria is scheduled to face the Democratic Republic of Congo on January 6, 2026, in Rabat, for their Round of 16 match.
