Algiers – The Ministry of National Education has announced the commencement of the selection process for the 2026 Algerian Mathematics Olympiad. This initiative aims to identify and prepare talented students for participation in various international mathematics competitions.
In a directive issued to regional education directorates, the ministry outlined the framework for organizing the third edition of the Olympiad. The communication emphasized the importance of selecting and training a national team capable of representing Algeria on the global stage.
The first qualifying round is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The competition is open to exceptional mathematics students from both public and private educational institutions, including students from the ‘Ashbal Al-Umma’ schools (cadet schools).
Eligibility Criteria
The Olympiad is targeting two key educational levels:
- Middle School: Students must have achieved a grade of 18/20 or higher in mathematics during the first term of the 2025-2026 academic year.
- High School: The competition is open to first-year students in the common core science and technology track, as well as second-year students specializing in mathematics, technical mathematics, and experimental sciences. These students must have obtained a grade of 17/20 or higher in mathematics during the first term of the 2025-2026 academic year.
The ministry’s directive also detailed organizational arrangements, including the establishment of lists of eligible students and the issuance of invitations by regional education directorates. Coordination with the directors of ‘Ashbal Al-Umma’ schools is also mandated to ensure the participation of eligible students from those institutions. The Algerian Mathematics Olympiad represents a key initiative to foster mathematical talent and promote excellence in the field of mathematics among Algerian students.
