Interior Minister Focuses on Key Presidential Projects

Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation, Said Saayoud, has called on governors across Algeria to prioritize and expedite the completion of key presidential projects. During a coordination meeting held via video conference on Wednesday, the Minister emphasized the need for strict adherence to timelines, setting a firm deadline of 2026 for resolving all outstanding building compliance issues under Law 08-15.

Saayoud instructed local committees to intensify their efforts, delivering a stern warning against unauthorized construction. He stressed the importance of professional integrity in resolving citizens’ situations, stating that there would be “no tolerance for disorderly buildings.”

Addressing the critical issue of water security, the Minister placed desalination plants and wastewater treatment projects under close scrutiny. He highlighted the President’s special attention to these initiatives, emphasizing the need for meticulous real estate and legal oversight. He cautioned against any obstacles that could hinder progress in this strategically vital sector.

Special attention was given to the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine and the Annaba phosphate project. Saayoud urged the governors of Bechar, Tindouf, and Annaba to ensure the timely completion of the Bechar-Tindouf-Gara Djebilet railway line. He also emphasized the importance of having the Annaba port’s phosphate terminal operational by the first half of 2026, while also praising the skills of Algerian experts.

In a move aimed at revolutionizing agricultural land management, the Minister called for a “purge” of equipment programs and the removal of restrictions on genuine investors. He ordered the establishment of monitoring units within governorates to involve farmers in resolving agricultural land issues. The goal, he stated, is to create genuine added value for the local economy, free from bureaucratic hurdles.

Beyond these major projects, Saayoud also addressed everyday concerns, ordering early preparations for the upcoming school year and summer season. He stressed that maintaining urban roads and improving transportation services must be top priorities for governorate councils. He stated that excuses regarding weather conditions or waste management would not be accepted, emphasizing the importance of citizen comfort and well-being.
