In the final days of 2025, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have both announced taking control of various areas in North and South Kordofan states, following intense clashes between the warring factions. The fighting continues unabated, with each side claiming significant gains.
According to military sources, the SAF conducted airstrikes targeting RSF positions in the town of Burno, located northwest of Kadugli in South Kordofan. The strikes reportedly inflicted casualties on the RSF. This action followed an RSF announcement claiming they had seized control of Burno just a day prior.
Another military source stated that the SAF had regained control of the town of al-Hamadi in South Kordofan after a fierce battle involving all types of weaponry. Videos circulating on social media purportedly show SAF soldiers patrolling al-Hamadi. As of yet, there has been no official comment from either the SAF or the RSF regarding these developments. Al-Hamadi is situated approximately 50 kilometers from the strategically important town of al-Dubaibat, which connects North Kordofan to al-Daling, the second largest city in South Kordofan. The SAF briefly controlled al-Hamadi in May, before the RSF retook it later that month.
Earlier on Wednesday, the SAF announced it had re-established control over the regions of Kazgil and al-Rayash in North Kordofan after clashes with the RSF.
Simultaneously, the RSF claimed that its forces, in conjunction with the allied Popular Movement, had seized control of the al-Kowaik area in South Kordofan. These developments follow the RSF’s assertion that it had captured the strategic “Intersection” area in South Kordofan, located on the road connecting al-Daling and Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan.
Border Crossing Extended
In related news, Sudanese authorities have announced an extension of the opening of the Adré border crossing with Chad for humanitarian aid for an additional three months, effective from the beginning of 2026. The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release that the government has decided to extend the opening of the Adré crossing to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
