Rabat, December 31, 2025 – The Algerian national team, affectionately known as “Les Verts” (The Greens), secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Equatorial Guinea in their final group stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations. The win, achieved in Rabat, solidified Algeria’s position at the top of Group E.
A blistering first-half performance saw Algeria effectively seal the match within the first 32 minutes. Zinedine Belaid opened the scoring in the 19th minute, followed by a goal from Farès Chaïbi in the 25th. Ibrahim Mahza added a third in the 32nd minute, putting Algeria firmly in control.
Equatorial Guinea managed to pull one back through Emilio Nsue in the 50th minute, but it proved to be merely a consolation. The result sees Algeria finish the group stage with a perfect record of three wins, following earlier victories against Sudan and Burkina Faso.
With nine points, Algeria tops Group E, followed by Burkina Faso with six points. Sudan finished with three points, while Equatorial Guinea ended their campaign at the bottom of the group.
Les Verts will now face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Round of 16 on Tuesday, January 6th. The team, led by the likes of Ramiz Zerrouki, will be looking to continue their impressive form as they progress through the tournament. A strong performance in the knockout stages will be crucial as they aim to secure another Africa Cup of Nations title.
