Lebanese Official Warns of Alleged Syrian Regime Plot

Beirut – The Deputy Prime Minister of Lebanon, Tariq Mitri, has expressed serious concerns regarding alleged plans by figures associated with the former Syrian regime. Mitri cautioned against the potential use of Lebanese territory for activities that could destabilize both Lebanon and Syria.

In statements, Mitri highlighted reports containing documented information and recordings. While acknowledging that certain details, particularly those concerning Lebanon, require further verification, he emphasized the need for a thorough investigation by Lebanese security agencies to ascertain the validity of these claims and take appropriate action.

Mitri stressed the responsibility of the Lebanese government and security forces to deter any actions by individuals linked to the ousted Syrian regime within Lebanon. He asserted that any such activities would be detrimental to the security of both Lebanon and Syria.

According to Mitri, the Lebanese government is actively cooperating with Syrian authorities to address these potential threats, fostering a relationship built on trust and mutual respect. He emphasized that this collaboration marks a departure from past dynamics between the two nations.

Addressing concerns about the potential impact on Lebanese citizens, Mitri stated that the current situation does not directly affect ordinary Lebanese citizens. However, he warned that any expansion of activities by supporters of the former Syrian regime within Lebanon could pose a threat to domestic security. He reassured the public that the matter is being closely monitored by the government and security agencies.

Mitri underscored the importance of cooperation with Syria in maintaining security and stability in both countries. He affirmed that Lebanese and Syrian agencies are operating with respect for each other’s sovereignty, engaging in ongoing collaboration for the benefit of both nations.

The Deputy Prime Minister clarified that security agencies are following meticulous procedures. While refraining from discussing specific operational details of the investigations, he expressed confidence in the agencies’ commitment to addressing the concerns raised by political authorities, ensuring the protection of Lebanese security and preventing any potential escalation.
