Algiers, January 2, 2026 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has extended his deepest condolences to the family of Mujahid and historian Mohammed Harbi, who passed away at the age of 93.
In a message of sympathy, President Tebboune acknowledged the significant loss felt by the nation with the passing of such a prominent figure. He highlighted Harbi’s early engagement in the political struggle against colonialism and his subsequent role within the ranks of the liberation revolution. Harbi served as both a Mujahid and an official within the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic.
Following Algeria’s independence, Mohammed Harbi dedicated himself to writing and research, making invaluable contributions to the global library with numerous significant works on the history of the national movement and the victorious liberation revolution.
“It is with deep sorrow that I learned of the passing of the Mujahid and intellectual historian Mohammed Harbi,” President Tebboune stated in his message. “With his departure, Algeria has lost a remarkable man who engaged early in the political struggle against colonialism, then in the ranks of the liberation revolution as a Mujahid and an official in the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic, before devoting himself after independence to writing and research, enriching the global library with several valuable works on the history of the national movement and the victorious liberation revolution.”
President Tebboune concluded his message by expressing his sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and to the revolutionary family, praying to God Almighty to grant him His vast mercy, dwell him in His spacious paradise, and inspire his family with beautiful patience and solace. “Indeed, to God we belong, and to Him we shall return.”
