Moscow to Share Drone Data with US, Alleges Kyiv Targeted Putin

Moscow, January 2, 2026 – The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced its intention to provide the United States with data retrieved from a Ukrainian drone allegedly involved in a recent attack targeting a presidential residence. According to the Ministry, the data will be shared through official channels.

In a statement released earlier today, the Ministry detailed the findings of their investigation. “Analysis of the navigation system of a Ukrainian drone, intercepted in the Novgorod region on the night of December 29, 2025, has allowed Russian intelligence to ascertain its flight mission and intended target,” the statement read.

The statement further elaborated, “The guidance data revealed that the ultimate target of the attack was located within the presidential residence in the Novgorod region, in northwestern Russia. We have decided to transmit this data to the American side through established diplomatic channels.”

The Kremlin previously stated that the drone attack not only targeted President Vladimir Putin but also undermined efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to broker a settlement in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The transfer of data to the U.S. signals a potential shift in information sharing, though the implications remain to be seen. DZWatch will continue to monitor this developing situation.
