The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attia, welcomed the President of the National Council of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Hama Salama, and his accompanying delegation today. Western Sahara Issue

In a media statement following the meeting, Salama emphasized the difficulties in implementing the peace plan in Western Sahara, especially due to the Moroccan occupation’s evasion of responsibility and non-compliance with United Nations resolutions, particularly those of the Security Council.

Salama criticized the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) for not fulfilling its duties and not implementing the mission it was established for. He drew parallels between the Sahrawi and Palestinian causes, pointing out the suffering of both peoples, especially in light of the ongoing violations and war crimes in Gaza and the Zionist occupation’s evasion of international legal obligations and commitments to a two-state solution for the establishment of the Palestinian state.

Discussing Algeria’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2024-2025, Hama Salama expressed confidence in Algeria’s effective contribution to defending just causes, foremost among them the Western Sahara issue. He highlighted the significance of his visit to Algeria, which facilitated the exchange of information and setting priorities for 2024. Salama met several ministers and the Prime Minister, Mohamed Nasser Arabawi, in what he described as a highly symbolic meeting for the Sahrawi people and government.

In conclusion, Hama Salama expressed gratitude to Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for its steadfast positions and defense of just causes, including the Western Sahara issue, in support of oppressed peoples’ right to self-determination.
