Yemeni Presidency Urges End to Restrictions on Citizen Movement

Aden, Yemen – January 4, 2026 – The Yemeni Presidency has issued a strong statement calling on the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to immediately and unconditionally cease all restrictions on the movement of citizens. The Presidency views these actions as a grave violation of the constitution and a breach of the Riyadh Agreement.

According to a source within the Presidential Office, the leadership is deeply concerned by the measures imposed by STC-affiliated forces. These measures include restricting the movement of citizens traveling to the interim capital, Aden, and preventing them from passing through key entry points to the city.

The source emphasized that these restrictions, which include the detention of travelers – among them families, patients, and students – as well as reports of arrests and abductions in Aden, constitute a violation of national laws and international conventions. They also undermine social peace and stability within the region.

The Presidency has called upon the STC to immediately and unconditionally end these restrictions, respect the authority of state institutions, and refrain from any unilateral actions that could harm public interests. DZWatch has learned that President Alimi also issued directives to take firm measures to secure state institutions, public facilities, and protect property in Hadramout Governorate, following the takeover of military and security sites by the “Nation Shield” forces.

President Alimi emphasized the importance of protecting institutions and deterring any human rights violations, calling on the people of Hadramout to support local authorities and forces in maintaining civil peace. He also acknowledged the Saudi role in sponsoring the upcoming dialogue conference on the “Southern Issue,” viewing it as a reflection of the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Yemen and its stability. He urged the STC to withdraw from unilateral measures and engage in the dialogue process.

The situation remains tense, and DZWatch will continue to provide updates as they become available.
