Algerian international defender, Jaouen Hadjam, will unfortunately miss the remainder of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers due to an injury. The setback effectively ends his participation in the current campaign with the national team.
National team coach Vladimir Petkovic announced Hadjam’s departure from the ‘Les Fennecs’ camp during a press conference held in Rabat, Morocco, on Monday. Petkovic explained that the player would return to his club to continue his rehabilitation.
“It was ultimately decided that Hadjam would leave to continue his treatment with his club. The medical staff tried to help him recover, but his condition did not allow it,” Petkovic stated.
Hadjam sustained the injury during the national team’s second group stage match against Burkina Faso, prompting extensive medical examinations before the final decision was made.
For his part, Jaouen Hadjam expressed his deep disappointment at having to leave the national team. He described his injury as “complicated” in a statement to the Algerian Football Federation’s official website before heading to Switzerland for treatment.
“I had a glimmer of hope regarding my injury, but it is complicated, which is why we took some time before making the final decision. It’s sad for me, especially since it’s my first participation with the national team in the Africa Cup of Nations,” Hadjam said.
“Praise be to God in all circumstances. I will do my best to come back strong after AFCON. Other competitions await us, and I hope to be ready to participate in them,” he added. The Algerian defender also expressed his strong confidence in his teammates, emphasizing that the team has a high-quality squad capable of going far in the competition. “I have great faith in the squad we have. Everyone is motivated and has the capabilities,” he affirmed.
Hadjam also sent a message to the Algerian fans: “For me, the Algerian fans are the best in the world. Throughout my career, I have never met fans like them. The national team needs their support greatly, and I personally love them very much, especially since they supported me in my beginnings, which were somewhat difficult, both with the national team and with the club.”
