The Committee on Equipment and Local Development of the Council of the Nation (Senate) commenced discussions on the proposed new traffic law today, Tuesday. Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saayoud, presented the draft legislation to the committee during a session chaired by Yahya Charef, head of the specialized committee.
Minister Saayoud emphasized that the new traffic law is the result of collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, as well as other sectors, including the Ministry of Justice. Representatives from security services and the National Gendarmerie also contributed to the drafting process.
Saayoud stated that the project embodies a sincere intention and a clear political vision aimed at fostering a society that respects order and values life. He stressed that the safety of citizens is a top priority for the President of the Republic, reflecting the state’s commitment to protecting the security and well-being of the population.
“The proposed law represents a comprehensive and integrated approach that requires the combined efforts of all stakeholders, each within their respective area of expertise, to achieve a safe and sustainable traffic system,” Saayoud added.
The new law is expected to bring significant changes to traffic regulations in Algeria. Key aspects of the legislation are aimed at improving road safety, reducing accidents, and promoting responsible driving behavior. It remains to be seen how the Senate committee will proceed with its review and what amendments, if any, will be introduced before the law is finalized and implemented.
The proposed traffic law underscores the government’s commitment to modernizing the country’s infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its citizens on the roads. Further details regarding the specific provisions of the law will be released as the legislative process continues.
