New Traffic Law Emphasizes Prevention, Responsibility

Algiers – The proposed new traffic law reflects a clear political vision centered on prevention and accountability, according to the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saayoud. Speaking earlier today, the Minister emphasized that the legislation aims to reduce traffic accidents by assigning responsibility to all parties contributing to their occurrence.

The new law, currently under review, represents a significant shift in approach to road safety. Instead of solely focusing on punitive measures after accidents occur, the legislation prioritizes preventative strategies. This includes enhanced driver education programs, stricter vehicle inspection standards, and improved road infrastructure.

“This is not just a traffic law; it’s a commitment to safeguarding the lives of our citizens,” Minister Saayoud stated. “We believe that by fostering a culture of responsibility and prioritizing prevention, we can significantly reduce the number of accidents on our roads.”

The Minister further explained that the law seeks to clearly define the responsibilities of all stakeholders, including drivers, pedestrians, vehicle owners, and road maintenance authorities. This comprehensive approach aims to address the multifaceted nature of road safety and ensure that all parties are held accountable for their actions.

The proposed law is expected to undergo further debate and amendments before being finalized and implemented. However, the Minister’s statements underscore the government’s commitment to tackling the issue of road safety with a proactive and preventative approach. The focus on assigning responsibility is also expected to lead to greater compliance and a more responsible attitude towards road usage across the country.
