Rabat – The Algerian national football team, Les Verts, are set to face the Democratic Republic of Congo this evening at 17:00 local time in a highly anticipated Round of 16 match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The game will be held in Rabat.
After a commendable performance in the group stage, the Algerian squad aims to maintain their momentum and secure a place in the quarter-finals. Coach Petkovic’s men are fully aware of the stakes and are expected to deliver a focused and resilient performance against a Congolese team that displayed considerable potential during the group phase.
However, Les Verts will be without the services of Samir Cherki and Joan Hadjam due to injury. Additionally, Rayan Ait Nouri is still recovering from a cold and will also miss the match.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed an Egyptian refereeing team to oversee the encounter. Mohamed Maarouf Eid Mansour will serve as the main referee, assisted by Mahmoud Ahmed Kamel Abou El Regal as the first assistant and Ahmed Hossam Taha Ibrahim as the second assistant. Amin Mohamed Omar will be the fourth official.
Should Algeria overcome the Democratic Republic of Congo, they will face Nigeria in the quarter-finals. Nigeria advanced after a dominant 4-0 victory against Mozambique yesterday. The potential clash promises to be a thrilling encounter in the quest for continental glory. Algeria hopes to continue their AFCON dream.
