Cybercrime Watchdog Issues Warning on Foreign Interference

Algiers – The National Authority for the Prevention and Fight Against Crimes Related to Information and Communication Technologies has issued a warning regarding suspicious digital activity targeting Algeria’s security and stability.

The authority, in a statement released today, revealed that technical investigations have uncovered the dissemination of subversive content online. This content, spread through pages and accounts on social media platforms, originates from individuals residing outside of Algeria, particularly in Morocco, France, Britain, and Canada. These individuals are reportedly known for their hostile stances towards Algeria and its institutions.

The watchdog stated that these online posts are attempting to incite Algerian merchants to strike on Thursday, January 8, 2026. This action is seen as a deliberate attempt to undermine public stability and disrupt social harmony.

DZWatch has learned that the authority is closely monitoring the situation and urging citizens and business owners to remain vigilant and avoid succumbing to these dubious calls for action. They emphasized that all necessary legal measures will be taken against those involved in these activities.

The authority reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Algeria’s digital space and protecting its citizens from malicious online campaigns. It urged the public to report any suspicious online activity to the relevant authorities.
